Time for the little people

So, is this going to be the start of something big for Alize Cornet? How about for Victor Hanescu, Juan del Potro or Sara Errani? All of those obscure players (and a few others) won tournaments on Sunday, although you wouldn't necessarily know it if you looked in the sports section of your local newspaper. After all, it was "hangover" week -- the week we all recover from Wimbledon.
You want to tell Victor -- or Alize or Errani -- that all he or she did was earn some chump change for collecting bottles discarded by the high rollers? That's the beauty of these hangover events. They give the "little people" of the game a chance, sometimes a jump start on a promising career, at least when there isn't a Robredo or Fabrice Santoro (the wily veteran defended his singles title at Newport on Sunday) poking through the recycling bin, as well.

E' tempo per la piccola gente

E' forse questo l'inizio di qualcosa di grande per Alize Cornet? E che dire di Victor Hanescu, Juan Del Potro o Sara Errani? Tutti quegli oscuri giocatori (e pochi altri) hanno vinto un torneo domenica, anche se magari non ne siete venuti necessariamente a conoscenza s avete letto la sezione sportiva dei vostri quotidiani locali. Dopo tutto, era solo una settimana di recupero dalla sbornia di Wimbledon.
E vuoi forse dire a Victor, o ad Alize, o alla Errani, che lui , o lei, hanno vinto solo qualche stupido premio per aver raccolto bottiglie scartate da quelli che contano? E' questo il bello di eventi come questo: danno alla 'piccola gente' del nostro gioco una chance, talvolta un trampolino di lancio per una promettente carriera, almeno quando non c'è un Robredo o un Fabrice Santoro (lo scaltro veterano che ha difeso il suo titolo domenica, a Newport) , magari anche frugando nel bidone della spazzatura...
