Wimbledon: Federer non sarà testa di serie n.2

Come molti avranno già notato/letto, se Djokovic vincerà il Roland Garros, Federer tornerà numero 2 del mondo.

2° Federer 9310 = 9790 (punti attuali) - 1200 (finale 2011) + 720 (semifinale 2012)
3° Nadal 9260 = 10060 (punti attuali) - 2000 (vittoria 2011) + 1200 (finale 2012)

Tuttavia Nadal sarà comunque seconda testa di serie a Wimbledon, unico torneo del Grande Slam a non seguire del tutto fedelmente il ranking, alla luce del particolare algoritmo utilizzato nella determinazione del seeding.
Questo anche qualora lo svizzero dovesse vincere Halle col maiorchino non partecipante.

MEN'S SEEDS
32 players will be seeded in the men's and ladies' singles. These will be the top 32 players on the ATP Entry System Position (ESP) and the WTA Tour ranking.

The seeds are the top 32 players on the ATP Entry System Position (ESP), BUT then rearranged on a surface-based system. A seeding Committee is not required for the Gentlemen’s Singles since the seeding order is determined using an objective and transparent system to reflect more accurately an individual player’s grass court achievements: The formula is:

· Take ESP points at 18 June 2012

· Add 100% points earned for all grass court tournament in the past 12 months

· Add 75% points earned for best grass court tournament in the 12 months before that.

Senza star lì a far calcoli, si vede subito che il margine di 275 punti (9535 contro 9260) in classifica sarebbe troppo basso per colmare la differenza tra quelli ottenuti ai Championships nei precedenti due anni cioè 3200 per RN (vincitore nel 2010 e finalista 2011) e 720 per RF (quarti sia nel 2010 che nel 2011).
