In campo è davvero inarrestabile, come dimostrano gli ennesimi successi a Pechino e Shanghai, ma quando si tratta di fare del bene, il numero uno del mondo, Novak Djokovic, non si tira certo indietro. Lui e sua moglie Jelena dirigono la fondazione che porta il nome del campione serbo e che all’AMREF  Fliyng Doctors Charity Gala ha lasciato il segno, acquisendo l’esorbitante cifra di 15000€  dalla vendita di una racchetta di Nole (considerando anche che qualche settimana fa un’altra è stata venduta a 60000€). La somma sarà destinata ad aiutare alcune madri africane in difficoltà, come sottolineato dalla stessa Jelena su Twitter: “Così orgogliosa del mio amore. Vince sul campo e aiuta gli altri al di fuori [..]. Che si vinca o che si perda, ogni giorno abbiamo l’opportunità di fare del bene”.

In Africa every 3 minutes a mother loses life while giving birth because of no adequate medical attention or because the first medical facility is hours away. Some mothers walk all day long when in labor to reach the medical help. Unfortunately, for African mothers pregnancy is not the time of excitement, but the time of fear and uncertainty. 1 in 9 women is in danger while pregnant. Because of lack of numbers, 1 midwife in Africa does what 60 midfiwes do in world. Bleeding is the most often cause of death for African mothers. Last night fundraising event was meant to gather the means for training more midwifes so that mothers can have help during labour in rural areas. We have donated Novak's racket for the auction and I was there on the stage to present it. We are so fortunate to be in a position to help, and we are never taking for granted what we have. Every day we are waking up with big sense of gratitude just for having an opportunity to live another day on this wonderful world. So many people don't wake up. These mothers in Africa are wishing to live to see their child… I cannot turn my head and not see this. I chose to do something about it.
